This little member of the
Cactaceae family was given this name by Alberto Castellanos in 1950.
It is found in the lowlands of Catamarca and Cordoba in northern Argentina,
below 500 metres. It is found in slightly acid grit, receiving some
water during the summer along with some to lots of sun. The stem
will grow to four centimetres high, twice as wide. It is a slow
growing species which eventually will form offsets. The flower is
white, and might have a red throat.
Considering it is named after
Arturo Enrique Ragonese who collected the type specimen, it ought to
be G. ragoneseii, however, the sources I use list it with
only one "i". |
