This member of the Oxalidaceae
family was described by François
Marius Barnéoud in 1845. It is found in Chile and Peru, growing in a well
drained soil wit some water and lots of sun. The root will grow to
three centimetres in diameter, the stem to 30 or even 100 centimetres. The
flowers are yellow, and the plant can be reproduced both by
seeds and root cuttings.
The genera name means
'sharp, pungent', as to leaf taste. The species name means
'succulent, fleshy'.
