This member of the Moringaceae
family was described by Henri
Lucien Jumelle in 1930. It is found in the south-western
part of Madagascar, growing on limestone or other well drained soil
with some water and lots of sun. The stem can grow up to 70
centimetres in diameter, the whole tree can reach ten and even
fifteen metres. The flowers are white.
The genera name from the
Malabar vernacular name; Moringo. The species name after
Eugéne J. Drouhard, 1874-1945, a French agronomist and forester.
This is really a
beautiful tree to see on Madagascar, but it's fast growing rate
(three meters the first year) does not make it ideal for my windows! |
