This member of the
Sterculiaceae* family was be given this name by William
Thomas Stearn in 1955. It is
found in southern Asia,
growing on limestone or other well drained soil with some
water and some sun. It will grow to a slim tree with a stem 50
centimetres in diameter and 20 meters
high. The flowers are white
The genera name in honour
of Joseph von Firmian, 18th century Imperial Governor of Lombardy.
The species name means 'pale'.
