This member of the Lecythidaceae
family was given this name by
Curt Polycarp Joachim
Sprengel in 1826. It is widely spread
around East Africa, south-east Asia and Pacific islands. It grows in
swamps with some to lots of sun. The stem can grow to 60 centimetres
in diameter, the tree from four to 27 meters high. The pale pink and
crème
colour flowers appears at night.
The genera name in honour of
Daines Barrington, 1727-1800, an English lawyer, antiquary and
naturalist. The species name reefers to the clusters of flowers.
