This member of the Agavaceae*
family
was given this name by William Trelease, in 1902. It is found in
north-eastern Maxico, growing in a well drained soil with some water and
lots of sun. The stem can grow to
fifteen centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to four centimetres in height. The flowers are white.
The genera name is from Yuca,
the name in St. Domingo for a totally different plant. The species is
named means 'stiff' or 'inflexible' for the leaves.
