This member of the Pedaliaceae  family was given this name by Hans-Dieter Ihlenfeldt and H. Straka in 1962. It is found in Madagascar, growing in a well drained soil with some to lots of water water and some to lots of sun. The slightly swollen stem can grow to 30 centimetres in diameter, the entire bush to four or even seven and a half metre in height. The flowers are white with a yellow throat.

The genera is named for the Uncarina tribe of Madagascar. The species is named for its 'slender fruits'.
