It is found in south and south-eastern Brazil, growing in a rich but well drained soil with quite some water and little to some sun. The caudex can grow to four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 20 centimetres in height. The flowers are pale yellow with maroon markings.

The genera is named after Wilhelm Sinning,1792–1874, a gardener of the Botanische Gärten der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. The species name means 'easily to be seen, conspicuous, remarkable', and it is in the wild.
