This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by
Robert Sweet in 1824. It is endemic to the Eastern Cape and
KwaZulu-Natal in eastern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with
some water and some sun. The long caudex can grow to three
centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to fifteen centimetres in
height. The
flowers are pale yellow and maroon.
The genera name from Greek;
pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the
bills of storks. The species name means
"powdery-white". The leaves can vary from almost round to very
serrated.
