This member of the Fabaceae
family
was given this name by Hans Schniz in 1899. It is found in Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa
and Zimbabwe, growing in a sandy soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to
45 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to 100 centimetres in height with 150 centimetres long vines. The flowers are dark blue to
mauve and rarely yellow.
The genera name from Greek neos;
'new' and Rautanenia is a genus in the Alismataceae family.
