This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was given this name by C. P. Sreemadhavan in 1975. It is found in India and Sri Lanca, growing in a well drained soil with quite some water and lots of sun. The swollen stem can grow to 60 centimetres in diameter, the entire tree to 15 or even 20 metres in height. The flowers are white over cream to pale yellow.

The genera name is an anagram derived from Joachim Otto Voigt,1798–1843. The species name indicates it was first found near the Indonesian islands of Maluku - which is quite far from India.
