This member of the
Euphorbiaceae family
was given this name by Henri Ernest Baillon in 1889. It is found in a
huge area of south-western Madagascar, growing in a well drained or
sandy soil with some water and lots of sun. The swollen stem can grow to
45 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to ten or even fifteen centimetres in height. The flowers are cream coloured.
The genera name is
an anagram derived from Joachim Otto Voigt,1798–1843. The species name
indicate its origin from Madagascar. |
