This member of the
Eriospermaceae* family
was given this name by Pauline Lesley Perry in 1989. It is found in a 300
kilometre belt in mid-western South Africa, growing in a hard clay soil with
some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to seven
centimetres wide, four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
from four to eight centimetres in height. The flowers are white with
green mid-nerve and fine, red striations except around the margin and
apex.
The genera name from Greek; erion; 'woll' and Greek sperma;
'seed'. The species name for the irregularly broken and minutely
ciliate margin to the prostrate orbicular-cordate lamina.
