This member of the Araliaceae
family was described by Carl Peter Thunberg in 1780. It is found in the
mid- and southern
Africa, where it grows on hillsides and rocky outcrops. Well drained
soil, some water and lots of sun. The corky stem will grow to 60
centimetres in diameter and reach for 17 meters. The flowers are
greenish-yellow.
The genera is named after
Pierre Cusson, 1727-1783, a French physician, botanist and
mathematician. The species means ' spike-like, or disposed on a
spike. |
