This member of the Lamiaceae family was given this name by John Isaac Briquet in
1894. It is found
in Angola, Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa,
Tanzania, Zambia, Zaïre and Zimbabwe, growing in a rich to well
drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can
grow to four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant from 30 to 90 centimetres in
height. The
flowers are whitish purple and might have dark purple spots..
The genera is named
after the Greek god; Aiolos; god of winds, and 'anthos' means
flower. The species name after J.G.
Buchner, the German naturalist who collected the type specimen in
Angola. |
