As a botanical garden, this is not
one of "the big ones". However, along with the ZOO,
it makes a nice break from the rest of the city. I was here in 2012.

The 14 hectares are
dominated by the ZOO, which might not be modern,
but do offers most of
the animals quite some room.

It was founded by J. B.
Louis Pierre, a famous French botanist
in 1864 and opened the year
after.

Many trees, and some
bonsais have name tags.

Several collections of nice bonsais.

Orchids on old stems.

Victoria
amazonica in the open.

The shadow/humidity
house houses some orchids and some other families - but it is locked.

Ponds are scatter around the area.

They even got an
arid area with cycas, yocca, cacti, agavas and euphorbias.

Must have good drainage!

One of so many bonsais. |
