Fixing a flat tire. More repairs | ||
Tools needed: 4 + 5 mm unbrako, 3
tire-Irons, vulcaniser, sandpaper, patch.
Photos will only follow, when I have to
fix my tire. Remove the valve to let out the remaining air - if any. Press the one side of the tire to the middle of the rim, and press it into it. Insert the first tire-iron on the other side, and while paying attention NOT to pinch the tube or hurt the rim, you flip it over the rim with the tire. Hold it here. Insert the second tire-iron around 12 centimetres from the first, and while paying attention NOT to pinch the tube or hurt the rim, you flip it over the rim with the tire. Hold it here. Do it once again with the third tire-iron. You should now be able to press the last tire-iron along the rim, till this side of the tire is completely off. Make a mark on on this side of the tube (where there are no frame). Remove the finger-not on the valve, and push it into the rim. Then remove the tube from the tire. Return the valve, and apply pressure to the tube. If you can't find the hole, sink it in water or apply soap-water to it. When you have fount the leak, dry the area, then clean it with sandpaper or alike. Deflate the tire, and apply vulcaniser/glue to an area, slightly larger than the patch. You can use the patch to distribute the vulcaniser, and at the same time get the patch covered. When it have dried a bit, place the patch on the hole, and apply pressure for some minutes. Make sure it is attached all over. Use the marks on the tube and the tire to locate where the hole was located in the tire, and remove any foreign objects from the tire. Put a bit of air in the tube, and replace it with the valve first. Secure the valve with the finger-nut. Replace the edge of the tire in the middle of the rim on one side, and place a tire-iron on one side. Press the tire on the rim as far as you can with your fingers. The use the second tire-iron to force the tire back-on, while paying attention to rim and especially tube. The last bit of the edge of the tire have to forced on with the third tire-iron, while paying attention to rim and especially the tube. Apply the sufficient air-pressure, and cross your fingers for a successful operation.
