This member of the Cactaceae family was first described by
Georg Engelmann
in 1848. It's found in the southern part of North America and
Mexico, rowing in grit with little water an lots of sun. It will grow to
a diameter of 5 centimetres and a high of 20 centimetres. The flower is,
as shown, pink. I found it at Box Hill, Australia 2002.
It seems to grow fine in
winter!
