Ludomania or ludopathy is not a religion, but it sure control a lot of people's behaviour just the same, and have done it thoughtout the known man's history.
It is repetitive gambling behaviour despite the harm and negative consequences. Problem gambling may be diagnosed as a mental disorder according to DSM-5 if certain diagnostic criteria are met. Pathological gambling is a common disorder associated with social and family costs.

The DSM-5 has re-classified the condition as an addictive disorder, with those affected exhibiting many similarities to those with substance addictions. The term gambling addiction has long been used in the recovery movement.

It let people make irrational decisions in order to obtain to obtains an outcome they don't need, regardless the consequences. It might start with a harmless game of Ludo with the kids and end with Russian roulette.

The history is filled with a long line of undesirable decisions, made by rather prominent people. It seems like for instant  Pappa Legba from Voodoo have the full idea.
