Well, it might not be a religion, but it sure inflict and shape quite some people's life and behaviour. And the Romans did have a god for it: Dionysus alias; Bacchus.
Where some religions embrace the consumption of alcohol and include it in religious ceremonies, others band it.

Alcoholism is actually
 a common medical condition. In this disorder, people can't stop drinking, even when drinking affects their health, puts their safety at risk and damages their personal relationships.
Living with an alcoholic causes mistrust, intimacy issues, mental and physical problems and relationship breakdown. People in long-term relationships often excuse addictive behaviour because they can remember what the person was like before alcohol.
Some countries still accept widely, and consider it to be a part of the national culture, where others have strict laws to control it.
