This monoecious member of the Cucurbitaceae
was described by Célestin Alfred Cogniaux in 1881. It is found in
central and southern and Yemen, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some
to lots of sun.
The caudex can reach 20 centimetres in diameter, the annual vines to two
meters length. The flowers are greenish white to yellow, the fruits
bright orange. The
genera name from Greek kedrostis, 'white Bryony', the ancient
name of a scrambling cucurbit. The species name means 'with minutely
haired, pubescent'. |
