This member of the Poaceae family
was given this name by Hans Joachim Conert in 1966. It is found in Namibia and western
South Africa, growing in sand with little water and lots of sun. The
Rhizomes grow two centimetres in diameter, the whole plant gets five
centimetres height. The flowers are pale pink.
The genera name after Johann Franz Drège, 1794-1881 and
chloa; 'grass. The species name is easy: 'low' or
'little'.
