This member of the
Araceae family
was given this name by Nicholas Edward Brown in 1901. It is found in
south-eastern Ethiopia, southern Kenya and south-western Somalia, growing in a well drained soil with
some water and some sun. The caudex can grow from eight to fifteen centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to 100 centimetres in height. The flowers are chocolate brown.
The genera name from
ancient Greek amorphos, 'without form, misshapen' and phallos,
'penis',
referring to the shape of the prominent spadix.
The species name from Latin gallant; 'splendid' for the flower. |
