This member of the
Passifloraceae family was given this name by Heinrich Gustav
Adolf Engler in 1891. It is found in Somalia, eastern Ethiopia and
north-eastern Kenya, growing in a well drained soil with
some water and some to lots of sun. The stem can grow up to 30 centimetres
in diameter, the whole small tree reach two meters or even 20 metres
with the vines. The flowers
are cream coloured.
The name Adenia
is derived from aden, meaning gland, and pertains to the glands
found on leaves of most of the species.
The species name means 'tapered',
as the branches are. |
Two years, mine have been stopped at
three centimetre height.
Then, within a month in late autumn,
it grow a 60 centimetre "vine". |
