This member of the
Pedaliaceae family
was given this name by Jean-Henri Humbert in 1962. It is found in central and
south-western Madagascar, growing in a well drained sandy soil with
quite some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow from fifteen to 25 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to 250 centimetres in height. The flowers are golden yellow.
The genera is named for the
Uncarina tribe of Madagascar. The species is named
after Jacques Désiré
Leandri, 1903–1982, a French botanist and mycologist, who collected the
first specimen. |
