This member of the Pedaliaceae family was
given this name by Jean-Henri Humbert in 1962. It is found in
southern Madagascar, growing in a well
drained soil with quite some water and some to lots of sun. The stem
starts out with a nice caudex, but ends up just slightly choppy stem
of 30 centimetres in diameter. The little tree can grow to five or
even eight metres height. The flowers are rather small for a
Uncarina, bright yellow with a maroon to black throat.
The genera is named for the
Uncarina tribe of Madagascar. The species is named after Raymond
Decary, 20th century plant collector.
As with the other
Uncarinas, cuttings do form a caudex. |
