This member of the Gesneriaceae family
was given this name by Alain P. Chautems, Mauro Peixoto and Josiene Rossini in
2015. It is found in Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo regions in
south-eastern
Brazil, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to
three or even ten centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to 20 or even 50 centimetres in height. The flowers are purple.
The genera is named after Wilhelm
Sinning,1792–1874, a gardener of the Botanische Gärten der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität
Bonn. The species name honours Dr. João Marcelo de Alvarenga Braga, the active
plant collector and taxonomist working at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical
Garden, who found it. |
