This tiny member of the Montiaceae family was given this name by Mark Alan Hershkovitz in 1999. It is found in western Australia, growing in a well drained sandy or stony soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to two centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to four centimetres in height. The huge flowers are purple.

The genera name is derived from a widespread Australian Indigenous name; parkilja. The species name as Diels and Pritzel thought the flowers resembled these of the Alpine flower Primula.
