This member of the
Orchidaceae family was
given this name by Antonio José Cavanilles in 1793. It is found in
southern Europe and northern Africa, growing in grassland in a well
drained soil with some to lots of water and some to lots of sun. The bulbs
can grow to two centimetres, the plant up to 30 centimetres in
height. The flowers are yellow, blue-grey and maroon. The pollen is
deposit on the abdomen of the bees.
The genera name means 'brow',
perhaps as to larger sepals than petals. The species name means
'yellow'.
I am not sure the caudex will
appreciate to be exposed. |
