This member of the Cucurbitaceae
family was given this nane by Célestin Alfred Cogniaux in 1896. It
is found in Ethiopia,
Kenya and Somalia, growing in a well drained soil with some
water and some sun. The caudex can grow up to 20 centimetres in
diameter, the vines up to one and a half meter long. The name comes from Mordio:
'to
bite' after the bitten appearance of the seeds. The
species name means 'unstalked, petioled leaves' as the leaves sit
directly around the stem. |
