This dioecious member of the
Cucurbitaceae family was
given this name by Charles Jeffrey in 1962. It is found in Ethiopia,
Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and in the United
Republic of Yemen, growing in a well
drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The vines
grow to five metres or more in length and the caudex up to eight
centimetres in diameter. The flowers are
yellow with green veins. The fruits are slightly hairy and red when
ripen.
The genera name from Greek
kedrostis, 'white Bryony', the ancient name of a scrambling
cucurbit. The species name is the Arab name for the species.
