This member of the Cucurbitaceae
family was given this name by Cornelis Eliza Bertus Bremekamp in
1933. It is found in southern Namibia, Botswana and central South Africa,
growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of
sun. The caudex can grow to 35 centimetres or more in diameter, the
vines can reach for three meters. The flowers are green and yellow, and I'm
pretty sure it is dioecious - either male or female plant.
The genera name from Greek
kedrostis, 'white Bryony', the ancient name of a scrambling
cucurbit. The species name from Latin crassi; 'thick'
and -rostrata; 'beak-shaped, somewhat beaked'. |
