This member of the
Euphorbiaceae family
was given this name by Nicol Alexander Dalzell and George Stacey Gibson in 1861. It is found in
the Pune area in western India and Rajnagar in the most eastern India, growing in a
rich but well drained soil with quite some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to
eight centimetres in diameter, 25 centimetres long, the entire plant
to 45 centimetres in height. The flowers are yellowish.
The genera name from the Greek
words ἰατρός; iatros, meaning 'physician', and τροφή;
trophe
meaning 'nutrition', as to medicinal uses. The species name means
"small". |
