This member of the
Balsaminaceae family
was given this name by Christopher Grey-Wilson in 1979. It is found in a
small area in the Uluguru Mountains of Tanzania, growing in a well drained
limestone-peat-mix with quite some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to
1,5 centimetres in diameter, but quite long. It is said; the seed-plants
form a more distinctive caudex. The entire plant grow from 60 to
90 centimetres in height. The flowers are deep coral-red..
The genera name means
'impatience', referring to the fruits which pops when ripe and
touched. The species name for the colour of the flowers; same as the
colour of a red mineral consisting of native mercuric sulfide HgS. |
