This member of the
Euphorbiaceae family was given this name by Rodolfo Amando
Philippi in 1860. It is found in a small costal area of
northern Chile, growing in a well drained soil with some winter rain
and lots of sun. The caudex will disappear by time, and the plant
will grow into a small bush, 120 centimetres in height with pale
yellow flowers.
The genera name; Euphorbia
dates back to the first century BC, where King Juba II of
Mauritania used it in a reference to his doctor, Euphorbos, and that
name was kept as a generic name by Carl von Linnaeus. The species
name from Latin; lacti; 'mix' and Latin flua
'impurities'.
