It is found around Springbok Flats in southern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to five centimetres, the medusa-like branches, lying flat out up to five centimetres long.

The genera is named after Euphorbos, the Greek physician of King Juba II of Numidia. The species is named after it's unusual pure white pollen.
