This member of the Cucurbitaceae family was described by Jean-Henri Humbert in 1945. It's from Madagascar, where it lives on the mountain slopes. Rich soil, little water and not too much sun. The caudex can grow to 15 or even 30 centimetres in diameter, the vines reach five metres. The flowers are greenish-yellow. Can be reproduced both by cuttings and seeds.

The genera name from the Greek zygos; 'yoked' or 'joined' and sicyos; 'cucumber'. The species name means 'three divided, separated'.
