This member of the Liliaceae family was
given this name by Joseph
Robert Sealy and William Bertram Turrill in 1955. It is
found in Bulgaria, East
Aegean Islands, Greece, Kriti and Turkey, growing in a well
drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The bulbs grow to
four and a half centimetres, the entire plant can reach ten to 25
centimetres. The flowers - one or two on each bulb - are bright red.
The genera name from an
ancient word for turban. The species name after Dr. CN
Goulimis, who discovered the species in the mid-20th century. |
