This member of the
Talinaceae family was given this name by Moritz Kurt Dinter in 1914. It is found in Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, northern South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, growing in well-drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to nine centimetres, the stem will reach for 40 centimetres. The flowers are yellow.

The genera name is derived from the Senegalese name for a certain species in Senegal. The species name means 'very narrow', referring to the linear leaves.
