This member of the Talinaceae
family
was given this name by Joseph Dalton Hooker in 1876. It is found in
Botswana, Burundi, Eswatini,
Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania,
Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
It is growing in a well drained
sandy or gritty soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to
nine centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to 40 centimetres in height. The flowers are golden yellow.
The
species is named after David Arnot, 1821-1894, a South African Griqua
agent, diamond prospector, diplomat, plant collector and correspondent
with Hooker, based in the Cape Colony. |
