This member of the Gesneriaceae
family was
given this name by Alain Chautems in 1990. It is found in Brazil
and Uruguay,
growing in well drained peat with some to lots of water and some sun. The caudex can grow up
to 40 centimetres in diameter and the whole plant will raise for
up to 130 centimetres. The flowers are red.
The genera is named after
Wilhelm Sinning,1792–1874, a gardener of the Botanische Gärten der
Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. The species name means 'big
stemmed'.
