This member of the Portulacaceae
family
was given this name by Lucien Leon Hauman in 1925. It is found in
northern Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay, growing in a well drained soil with
some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to
three centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to twelve centimetres in height. The flowers are pink.
The genera name from Latin
portula; 'small door' for the fruits, which open with a small
lit. The species name from Latin; eruci; 'tendril' for the
"hairs". |
