This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Johann Christoph Wendland in 1808. It is found in the Western Cape Province in South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to three centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 25 centimetres in height. The flowers are white to cream coloured.

The genera name from Greek; pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the bills of storks. The species name means 'small flowers'.

It is said the leaves smell of coconut.
