This member of the
Moringaceae family was
given this name by Heinrich
Gustav Adolf Engler in 1902. It is found in Kenya, south-eastern Ethiopia and Somalia, growing in a well
drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to
30 centimetres in diameter, the few branches not more than 50
centimetres in height. The flowers are bright red.
The genera name from the
Malabar vernacular name; Moringo. The species name after the
long tubes of the flowers.
