This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was given this name by Gerhard Marx in 1999. It is found in the Groot Swartberg Nature Reserve in southern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to six centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to eight centimetres in height. The flowers are green.

The genera is named after Euphorbos, the Greek physician of King Juba II of Numidia. The species is named from Latin; sub-; 'under' and pressa, 'pressed' for the growing form.
