This member of the Fabaceae
family was given this name by Ernst
Heinrich Friedrich Meyer in 1836. It is found in Botswana,
Eswatini, Mozambique, eastern South Africa and eastern Zimbabwe,
growing in a rather rich but still well drained soil with some to
lots of water and lots of sun. It does not form a classic nice
caudex, but young plants have have. The mature tree can reach five
or even eight metres. The flowers are bright red.
The genera name from Greek;
eryhros; 'red' for the mostly red flowers. The species name
means 'very wide' for the leaves. |
