This member of the Cycadaceae family was
given this name by Ferdinand Jacob Heinrich von Mueller in 1876. It is found in
a small area in the Newcastle Range, north-eastern Australia, growing in a well
drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The stem grow to
tvelwe centimetres in diameter with a base up to 26 centimetres. The
height are in average two metres, but it can reach five.
The genera name is derived from
the old Greek name for Doom Palm. The species name from
William Cairns, the 19th century governor of Queensland, Australia. |
