This member of the Cucurbitaceae family was
given this name by Célestin Alfred Cogniaux in 1901. It is found in
Namibia and western South Africa, growing in a well
drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The swollen stem
can grow to ten centimetres in diameter and reach four metres.
The genera name from Latin;
corallum; 'coral' and Greek; karpos; 'fruit' for the red
fruits. The species name from Latin; dissected; for the deeply lobed
leaves. |
