This tiny member of the Crassulaceae family was given this name by Peter Vincent Bruynes in 1989. It is found in the shrubs of Little Karoo, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The short stem grow into a five centimetre ball, some claim it can grow into a 20 centimetre plant, but that might be counting in the inflorescence with the white flowers.

The genera name is an anagram of Cotyledon; a closely-related genus. The species name means 'white-flowered'.
