This member of the Gesneriaceae family was given this name by Hans Joachim Wiehler and Alain P. Chautems in 1991. It is found in Bahia, north-eastern Brazil, growing on rocks or in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to six centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 30 centimetres in height. The flowers are red to pink.

The genera is named after Wilhelm Sinning,1792–1874, a gardener of the Botanische Gärten der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. The species name after Ana Maria Giulietti Harley, is a Brazilian biochemist, botanist, and educator.
